Garmin announces first devices with Satellite Communication Technology: Introducing the inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+

(NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced the inReach SE^®+ and inReach Explorer^®+, the first Garmin devices with inReach satellite communication technology. The new inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ have Pole to Pole global Iridium^® satellite coverage for two-way messaging and SOS alerting anywhere in the world. Both models include a built-in GPS for location tracking and basic navigation, and the inReach Explorer+ adds preloaded TOPO maps¹, compass and barometric altimeter.

Communication

Using the worldwide coverage of the Iridium satellite network, the inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ can send and receive text messages with any cell phone number, email address or another inReach device, so users can be outside of cellular range without compromising their loved ones’ peace of mind. Both devices have an interactive SOS, which triggers an emergency response from GEOS^®, the 24/7 global search and rescue monitoring centre. After the SOS is received, inReach users are then able to communicate back and forth with experienced GEOS specialists about the nature of the emergency, and receive confirmation when help is on the way. Users can also set up emergency contacts on their devices that will also be notified in the event of an SOS. The bright, transflective display, optimised for outdoor use, as well as the simple user interface and fully protected SOS emergency button, makes communication in emergency situations clear and intuitive.

High-sensitivity GPS

Both the inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ have a built-in high-sensitivity GPS that provides basic navigation, location and tracking data, so users can follow routes, drop waypoints and find their way back using an electronic bread crumb trail. The inReach Explorer+ adds preloaded topographic maps for Europe, built-in barometric altimeter and electronic compass. With the web based MapShare function, the inReach device can send the user’s trip data, such as tracks and waypoint updates at preselected intervals, so friends and family can follow user’s whereabouts, request a location update and exchange messages.

Free Earthmate^® App

With a compatible smartphone², the inReach SE+ and Exporer+ can sync with the free Earthmate app for even more compatibility and convenience. With the Earthmate app, users can access unlimited maps and aerial imagery. Users can also get optional weather updates and premium weather packages directly to the handheld. Additionally, every inReach device comes with free access to the cloud-powered Explore portal so users can plan trips and waypoints, sync and manage their device, store all their tracking data and more.

Other Features

On a single charge, the inReach SE+ and Explorer+ can get up to 100 hours of battery life in tracking mode and up to 30 days in power saving mode. Rugged and designed in with Garmin outdoor quality to withstand the elements, these devices are impact resistant and have an IPX7 water rating³. To access the Iridium network and communicate with an inReach SE+ or Explorer+, an active satellite subscription is required. Depending on usage level, users can opt for an annual contract package or a flexible month-to-month airtime plan, which allows them to pay for service only when they need it. Annual plans range from £12.99 to £84.99 per month (plus activation fee), and month-to-month plans range from £16.99 to £104.99 per month.

Availability

The inReach SE+ and inReach Explorer+ will be available in the first quarter of 2017. The inReach SE+ will have a suggested retail price of £399.99 and the inReach Explorer+ will have a suggested retail price of £449.99.

Features

Preloaded with routable European Topo mapping the fēnix 5X measures at 51mm and comes in an impressive ultra-rugged steel design. The legend is back: Garmin updates the GPSMAP 276Cx, a versatile all-terrain GPS navigator

Garmin announces the GPSMAP 276Cx, an upgraded reinvention of the classic 276C. Since its launch in 2004, the 276C has proven in countless deployments all around the world to be Garmin’s most versatile all-terrain GPS navigator, ready for land and sea. The 276Cx provides the well tested classic functionality of the original, with all the latest technological improvements of the last decade in a device truly as unique as the customer who desires such performance. The 276Cx now features both GPS and GLONASS for better performance in heavy cover, optional external antenna support (sold separately), HotFix for faster satellite acquisition and other wireless connectivity features. For improved operation in demanding environments, there’s now a larger sunlight-readable 5-inch display as well as a barometric altimeter and 3-axis compass, which were not present in the 276C.

There is also an updated and simplified menu interface, which features a variety of profiles optimised for each activity such as hiking, tour cycling, climb, geocache, fish and more.

Active Weather

All of the new Oregon^® 700 handhelds include the new Active Weather feature for real-time forecast information, with live weather radar so users can always be aware of both inclement weather and perfect conditions for their outdoor adventures.

Wireless Integration

With a Wi-Fi connection or through the Garmin Connect Mobile app on a compatible smartphone², all of the new Oregon^® handhelds will have wireless integration with Geocaching.com for Geocaching Live. Featuring an updated 4-inch, dual orientation, glove friendly touchscreen display, the new Montana 600 series units have a rugged design with an IPX7 water rating¹ to handle the elements. Each unit has a 3-axis electronic compass and barometric altimeter, plus a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with GLONASS support, which allows for a quick and strong satellite fix, even in heavy cover or deep canyons. The Montana 680 and 680t boast an 8 MP digital camera for high-quality images that are automatically geotagged, so users can easily navigate back to that exact spot.

Each unit comes preloaded with a worldwide shaded relief basemap, a one-year subscription to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, and a microSD card slot to support additional maps. The 680t also comes preloaded with the Recreational Map Europe 100K.

With an array of compatible mounts, the new Montana 600 series is designed for use on ATVs, in boats, as a handheld or in your car or RV. Use the auto mount with City Navigator^® maps for spoken, turn-by-turn driving directions, or the rugged mount on a motorcycle or ATV. Additionally, these units support a wide range of Garmin cartography including Garmin GB Discoverer, TOPO maps or BlueChart^® g2 while out on the water.

Each unit operates on Garmin’s flexible dual-battery system, which is compatible with either a rechargeable lithium-ion pack or standard AA batteries to get up to 22 hours of battery life. Each unit also has ample memory to hold maps on board, a microSD card slot to support additional data and wireless data transfer capabilities, so users can easily share waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches with other compatible Garmin GPS users.

The new Montana 600 series units make paperless geocaching easier than ever. Each device comes preloaded with 250,000 geocaches from Geocaching.com. Devices store and display key information to find the cleverly hidden containers including the geocache coordinates, terrain rating, its difficulty, hints and descriptions, so users no longer have to manually enter coordinates or print out geocache info. In addition to the preloaded geocaches, the new Montana devices can store millions more, so users will no longer have to pick and choose which geocaches they want to load on their device.

Available in autumn 2015, the Montana 610 will have a suggested retail price of £419.99; the 680 will have a suggested retail price of £459.99 and the 680t will have a suggested retail price of £499.99.
