Posted June 6, 2012 | 04:17 AM in Automotive , Motorcycles | Permalink

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation, has today announced the zūmo 350LM GPS navigator – a stylish, rugged, sunlight readable, high-resolution and glove-friendly 4.3-inch touchscreen biker sat nav. It’s the first motorcycle navigator with lifetime maps so you’ll always know the way, even while Zumo340LM_HR_102exploring the back roads. If you like to be more prepared, simply use Garmin’s free Basecamp software to plan your route before you go, send to your zūmo and even share your rides with friends. Of course, you can also use zumo 350LM in the car (motorcycle and car mounts included), for complete flexibility.

The zūmo 660LM has also been launched today. It adds Lifetime Map updates to Garmin’s well-respected and well-liked, premium motorcycle navigator.

“Valuable features, like the service history log (on the zūmo 350LM), Lane assist with junction view and tracback are just a few of the reasons the zūmo has become an essential tool for motorcyclists all over the world,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “The zūmo 350LM is lightweight, includes lifetime map updates, transmits directions via compatible Bluetooth™ headsets/helmets and can handle the toughest weather conditions¹.”

The zūmo 350LM offers you the convenience of lifetime map updates² which provide up-to-date mapping and the most current information about businesses like restaurants, cashpoints, hospitals and more. With the easy to use premium navigation search bar, zūmo returns results for points of interest (POIs) as they are typed providing a faster, more intuitive experience. There’s also a speed limit indicator and Exit Services that display petrol stations, shops and restaurants for upcoming exits. With the TracBack feature riders really can ride wherever the road takes them, as it is now as easy as a button push to navigate along that same route back to where the adventure started.

BaseCamp™ compatible, the zūmo 350LM (as well as the zūmo 220 and 660) make it easy for motorcyclists to plan their next ride. The free software allows users to create routes, waypoints and tracks from their computer and transfer them to the zūmo. With the “Track Draw” feature riders can trace their planned route and view elevation changes, helping estimate the difficulty of the ride. After an open road or off the beaten path adventure, send the ride to Basecamp, upload pictures and share the adventure with friends and relive the experience.

zūmo 350LM is more than just a GPS navigator. Its new Service History Log lets riders record the date, mileage and type of maintenance performed on their motorcycles. Tyre mileage, tyre changes, tyre pressure, chain cleanings, oil changes, new spark plugs – almost anything you can think of, zūmo will keep a record of it.

Whether riding during a bright summer day or a moonless autumn night, the zūmo 350LM has Zumo350_HR_0116motorcycle-friendly features any rider will appreciate. Lane assist with junction view guides riders to the correct lane for an approaching turn or exit, and realistically displays road signs and junctions on the route along with arrows that indicate the proper lane for navigation.

Style and substance – that’s the zumo 350LM.

The new zūmo 350LM has a suggested retail price of £419.99. The zumo 660LM has a suggested retail price of £499.99.

²If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately or bundled together with certain GPS models), you will receive up to 4 map data updates per year, when and as such updates are made available on Garmin’s website, for 1 compatible Garmin product until your product’s useful life expires or Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier, whichever is shorter. A product’s “useful life” means the period during which the product (a) has sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs. A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more. Unless otherwise stated, the updates you receive under the subscription will be updates to the same geographic map data originally included with your Garmin product when originally purchased. In some instances, your Garmin product might not have sufficient memory remaining for you to load an update to the map data, in which case you will need to either (a) select reduced map data coverage for your updates, or (b) purchase separately a microSD™/SD™ card (if and as applicable to your Garmin product) and load all or a portion of the map data coverage for your updates to the card and insert the card into the microSD/SD card slot contained in your Garmin product. If neither of the measures in (a) or (b) can be used to address your product’s lack of sufficient remaining memory, then Garmin may conclude that the “useful life” of your product has expired. Garmin may terminate your nüMaps Lifetime subscription at any time if you violate any of the terms of this agreement or your subscription. Your nüMaps Lifetime subscription may not be transferred to another Garmin product.

Gives New Meaning to Rugged and Versatile

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the Montana handheld GPS device – the most advanced Garmin touchscreen navigator featuring a rugged design with multiple uses: on foot, on the water and in the car. With battery options, a large dual-orientation screen and support for a wide range of Garmin cartography, Montana is our most versatile GPS for the serious adventurer.Montana

It has a barometric altimeter for elevation profiling and exceptional routing functions using preloaded high-definition worldwide mapping. The built-in 3-axis compass gives the Montana a heading even when standing still or held at an angle. Montana’s glove-friendly responsive touchscreen is a generous four inches (10.2cm) and the photos taken by its 5-megapixel autofocus camera on the 650 and 650t models are displayed in sunlight-readable brilliant colour.

“Montana was designed to be rugged, portable and incredibly versatile for people who are always after adventure,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “We now have one device to fulfil all of your GPS needs. From navigating in your boat or traversing the back country in your 4 x4, to hiking the Austrian Alps and even receiving spoken turn-by-turn directions on the way to the shops — Montana has the flexibility and mapping compatibility to do whatever you need it to.”

Anywhere and everywhere: With Montana’s ultra-rugged design there’s no need to hold back, regardless of your adventure. Montana is fully waterproof and capable of withstanding all the mud and grit you can throw at it, even when connected to its optional power mount. Use the in-car mount and City Navigator® mapping for spoken, turn-by-turn driving directions, or the hardy mount for your motorcycle or 4x4. If you are on foot, simply plug headphones into Montana’s 3.5mm audio jack to hear the spoken prompts.

When it comes to mapping, Montana has you covered with support for Garmin’s wide array of detailed topographic, marine and road maps. It also supports new BirdsEye™ Select and BirdsEye Satellite imagery (subscription required) that allow you to download custom areas of your favourite raster maps and satellite images to your device. And, when you connect your Montana to your computer, you can use any of these maps with Basecamp, our free downloadable route planning software designed to help you plan and review your trips in precise detail.

Stay powered: Montana offers two battery options to keep your device powered during remote treks and other outdoor adventures. When you have a chance to rest and recharge each night, a thin, lightweight lithium ion battery pack, lasting up to 16 hours, comes in the box. For those trips where you’re off the grid, Montana also works on three AA batteries, giving explorers an additional 22 hours of use without being weighed down.

Go paperless: Montana supports geocaching GPX files for downloading geocaches and details straight to the unit. Montana stores and displays key information, including location, terrain, difficulty, hints and descriptions, which means no more manually entering coordinates and paper print outs! Simply upload the GPX file to your unit and start hunting for caches. Caches can be downloaded from www.OpenCaching.com , a completely free online community for creating, sharing and finding geocaches around the world.

While you are out searching for your next cache or trekking through untouched wilderness, capture locations and memories with Montana’s 5-megapixel digital camera. Each photo is automatically geotagged with the location where it was taken, enabling you to navigate back to that exact spot in the future. Snap and view pictures in landscape or portrait orientation. For more storage, insert a microSD card; you can even view pictures from other devices on microSD with Montana’s picture viewer.GarminGPSExperience2011_ThFroitzheim5hoch

The Montana comes in three models, the 600 with worldwide basemap, 650 with worldwide basemap and 5MPcamera and 650t with worldwide basemap, 100k Euro Topo mapping and 5MP camera.
