It's home sweet home for Elliott Sadler this weekend. The Sprint Cup Series heads to the Richmond International Raceway for the Crown Royal 400 where Elliott and the No. 19 Stanley Tools Dodge will take on the 0.75 mile oval track Sunday at 7 p.m. A Virginia native, Elliott has had one top-10 finish in his 18 Richmond starts, which came in the spring 2005 when he placed seventh. After spending 75% of last week's 'Dega race in the top-15, Elliott and the No. 19 Garmin/Best Buy team finished 29th after being involved in the multi-car accident on the final lap of the event. This weekend, Elliott will jump into the same car used at Phoenix just weeks ago, and says they're hoping to show everyone what they can do with it at Richmond.
Elliott agrees that this weekend will be more intense being in his home state, and says, "I used to sit in those very same stands when I was a kid with my family members. A lot of my crew guys are from Virgina, too, so it means a little more to all of us when we race at Richmond."
Race fans will get the first look at the No. 19 Garmin/Best Buy Dodge paint scheme at Sunday's much anticipated Talladega Superspeedway event.
Elliott Sadler and the No. 19 Dodge are getting ready to go in Talladega (of which 17 of the last 18 wins have been a Chevrolet), and have high hopes for this track.
"From what we saw at Daytona and here last year, I can't see us putting on anything other than an exciting race," Elliott said.
After bad luck struck in Phoenix two weeks ago, the team sits 23rd in points going into this weekend's event. They'll take on the 2.66-mile track in a new GEM Chassis No. 238 car this weekend, that has never been raced. Make sure to tune in Sunday at 2 pm ET to see the new Garmin car and cheer Elliott on along the way!
Talladega Superspeedway is home to this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Aaron's 499. If you're not one of the 175,000 fans that have a seat at the largest track in the circuit, here's a fun way to score some No. 19 gear while you're watching from home. Since this weekend's No. 19 car will debut the Garmin paint scheme, here's a friendly competition for all of the Garmin/ Elliott Sadler fans out there. Be one of the first few folks to send in the correct numbers to the following bits of trivia, and we'll send you a No. 19 Elliott Sadler t-shirt, Garmin-style. Good luck and we'll see you back here on Friday for the race weekend preview!
By the numbers...
Elliott has earned how many pole awards in his racing career?
An avid hunter, Elliott uses the Garmin Astro dog-tracking system with his Tennessee Walker hunting dogs. How many dogs can he track at one time with an Astro?
The excitement is high for the No. 19 Best Buy Racing team as they gear up for tomorrow's race in Phoenix. Driver Elliott Sadler and the No. 19 Stanley Tools Dodge qualified in second place for the Subway Fresh Fit 500, just outside the pole with a lap of 263.984. Cup drivers will take on the flat-one mile oval of Phoenix International Raceway this weekend, and the team says PIR is the perfect place to get the point battle back on track. Elliott is currently in 20th place in Drivers Points standings, 163 points behind the 12th position. Tune in Saturday night at 8 pm ET to catch all the action.
And although Elliott will be turning up the heat in the orange, yellow and red-flame Stanley Tools paint scheme tomorrow, here's a first look at the No. 19 Garmin paint scheme that will debut at next weekend's Talladega race!
Will lighting strike twice this weekend for Elliott Sadler? With a 2004 victory at Texas Motor Speedway under his belt, Elliott says his confidence level is already up more than usual going into this weekend's event. Currently in 20th place in driver's points standing after a 15th place finish in Martinsville last Sunday, Elliott and the No. 19 Best Buy racing team will take on the 1.5-mile oval track in Fort Worth this Sunday. Hoping to seek his return to victory lane Texas-style, Elliot says he always has room for more hardware from the race track. "I'll tell you one thing about winning at Texas - I do like those big trophies they give out and another one would look good in my house."
Look for the No. 19 car to heat up the track in the Best Buy blue/yellow paint scheme starting at 1:30 ET Sunday afternoon. And be sure to stick around for the latest news from the team, as we're only two races out from Talladega, where the Garmin car is set to make its debut!
Elliott Sadler and the No. 19 Best Buy/ Garmin Dodge head into Atlanta this weekend with a top-10 seat in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Points standings, just three races into the season. After an impressive 10th-place start during last Sunday's race, the team fought strong for a 12th-place finish in Las Vegas. With that solid finish, Elliott currently sits in ninth place, along side his teammate Kasey Kahne, who is in fourth.
This Sunday, drivers will take on the 1.54-mile oval track at Atlanta Motor Speedway - the fastest track on the NASCAR circuit. "Personally, I like that high line around the track and it works for me," Elliott said. So after you've turned your clocks ahead one hour this weekend, be sure to catch Elliott in action in the blue and yellow No. 19 car. We'll be cheering for another top performance, Elliott - keep up the great work!
Even if you may have missed Elliott’s 12th place finish in the UAW-Dodge 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, we’re still giving you a chance to experience life in the fast lane. We’ve spoken to Elliott’s pit crew and they were kind enough to lend us one of their Garmin-branded stock cars for use in the Garmin Garage. So now you can take to the streets with your own stock car leading the way on your nüvi, zumo or StreetPilot. And the great thing about this free vehicle icon – it can turn left AND right. Just try to keep it under 65 mph! Congrats to Elliott and the rest of the team! We can’t wait to see you next week at the Atlanta Motor Speedway!
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines... because we're happy to announce that Garmin will be sponsoring the Gillett Evernham Motorsports team and the No. 19 car in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. We've teamed up with Best Buy Racing, and are looking forward to spending a lot of time in victory lane with driver Elliott Sadler. Elliott is a racing fan favorite and Garmin enthusiast and the Garmin family is excited to be on board with him in the drivers seat.
At the start of the season, Elliott and the No. 19 car took home a 6th-place finish in Daytona, and after last week's race in California, Elliott is 13th in drivers points standings. The No. 19 team heads to the city that never sleeps this weekend for the UAW-Dodge 400 where drivers will take on the 1.5-mile superspeedway of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Watch Elliott burn up the track this Sunday as the team debuts the Stanley Tool paint scheme with red, yellow and orange flames on the black car background. This brand new car has only been tested in Las Vegas in January. Catch the action on Sunday, starting at 3:30 on Fox.
And keep it locked here every Friday for a race re-cap and a look ahead to that weekend's event. Good luck, Elliott!
Leno loves it: Download E85 stations at Garmin.com
Black Corvette, red interior, green gas. Today, Jay Leno’s E85-powered C6RS Corvette went on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which opens to the public Friday. You'll recall from Jake's SEMA blog entries last month that we hooked Jay up with a special database of every E85 gas station in the U.S. so that his nüvi would list them as custom points of interest. We hear that it's already come in handy in Jay's quest for ethanol!
Now you can join Jay in going green with Garmin. We're making the extensive list of E85 gas stations available as a free download on our page that features custom points of interest. Click here for details on downloading to your compatible Garmin device, and be sure to check out our other downloadable points of interest. If you want to see more of Jay's Corvette (with the nüvi 680 on the windshield), click here.
Friday looked like it was shaping up to be a great day for Chad McCumbee fans—until the very last few minutes, that is. After making a fantastic pass with just four laps to go, it looked like Chad and the #8 theGPSStore.com / Garmin truck had a clear view of victory lane ahead. It was two laps later, however, when things changed. After working around a clutch problem he had been fighting throughout the race, Chad was in the lead with two laps to go. As the green flag fell, Chad corrected his truck after battling the clutch issue again, and was rear-ended by another driver. The #8 truck pin-balled several others, and Chad, who started second, was out of his chance at a victory. "You feel like you got robbed a little bit," Chad said. Without bad luck, we had a legitimate chance to win two races in a row. That's the most disappointing thing, when you made the right moves and drove the right race, but didn't get the result out of it."
Nonetheless, it was great to see Chad perform how he did. We'll catch up with Chad more later this week as he prepares for the Casino Arizona 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway.

It's been a while since we've had some NASCAR news around here... so let me bring you up to speed! Tonight is a big night for #8 theGPSstore.com/ Garmin driver Chad McCumbee, who had his best qualifying effort of year with a fast lap of 184.018, for tonight's Craftsman Truck Series event at the Texas Motor Speedway. For Chad, who has not had any top-five starts this season, and only three in the top-10, tonight's second place start is a huge improvement for the team. "The guys on the team have been working as hard and they can possibly work and are finally getting some reward for it," Chad said. With just two events left in the season, we're excited to see Chad gain this opportunity. The fun starts tonight at 8:30 p.m., with live SPEED coverage of the 9 p.m. race. Good luck, Chad!
Our favorite NASCAR drivers are headed to Martinsville for the weekend. First up is the #8 theGPSStore.com/ Garmin driver Chad McCumbee in the Craftsman Truck series event on Saturday. After having last week off, Chad and team will take on the "paper-clip"-shaped oval track with it's tight turns and 800-foot straight-aways. With only five events left in the season, we're cheering for a great finish for Chad at the Kroger 200!
After Saturday's event, race on back to the track Sunday to watch the NEXTEL Chase heat up. The #66 Best Buy/ Garmin driver Jeff Green is coming off a rough run from last week's Lowe's event where after a 37th-place start, the team was only able to move ahead five spots for a 32nd-place finish. Jeff says that with five events remaining, the team hasn't changed their focus, and continues to try and put the #66 in the top-15 every week. We here at the Garmin campus are rooting for those top-15 finishes too, and wish Jeff the best of luck this weekend.
Good luck to both drivers at Martinsville this weekend! Let's make the last races of the season some of the best!
With just six more events left in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Chase, our favorite driver is really making us proud! The #66 Best Buy / Garmin driver Jeff Green had yet another top-20 finish at last weekend's Talladega event. Jeff took home a 13th-place finish after starting 32nd, and hopes this weekend will bring similar luck as he qualified 37th going into the Lowe's Motor Speedway weekend. Earlier in the season, the team didn't have such good luck, and after a wreck during qualifying, had to complete the event with the back up car. This time around, Jeff says the team has a really good shot at a good run this weekend. Tune in Saturday evening at 6:30 pm Central to catch the only night race in the Chase for the Championship. Good luck, Jeff!
While Jeff is out on the Chase this weekend, our other favorite drive Chad McCumbee, has the weekend off. We will catch up with the #8 theGPSStore.com/ Garmin driver and the rest of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers, in a few weeks at the Martinville Speedway for the Kroger 200 on Oct. 20.
And on a side note - have you ever wondered how much man power, paper products, or trash cans it takes to make a NASCAR event run smoothly? Check out the Lowe's Motorspeedway Fun Facts to brush up on some random race event facts. You're going to be amazed!
With the race season winding down, the continues to heat up for both Garmin sponsored drivers. For our favorite NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series theGPSstore.com/ Garmin #08 driver Chad McCumbee, this weekend is looked upon with high expectations after Chad and team come off the best weekend of the year just two weeks ago. With their first 10th-place finish of the season under their belts, the high hopes to continue the success are awfully high going into the weekend. The Craftsman Truck series heads to Talladega for the Mountain Dew 250 and Chad says this is always one of the most exciting races of the year. "We had a good run last week and I think that will be a building block for this team for the rest of the year," Chad says of the upcoming race. And if a couple of things go their way, Chad feels confident they will head to these tracks and run up front. With just six events left, we're rooting for Chad to continue the good runs! Good luck, Chad!
After you've started your NASCAR weekend with the trucks on Saturday, the action continues on Sunday with the Garmin/Best Buy Haas CNC Racing #66 driver Jeff Green in the NEXTEL Cup series. For the second consecutive week, the #66 car will sport the Garmin silver and blue paint design on the hood... and hopes to bring home yet another top-20 finish this weekend, too! Earlier in the year, Jeff and team landed the 13th-place position at 2.66-mile tri-oval Talladega Superspeedway course, and hope to bring home another good run at this weekend's UAW-Ford 500. Since we can't cheer Jeff on again in person like last week, we'll have to settle for some electronic blog cheering instead... go Jeff!
Vroom... Vroom! We just got back from a wonderful race weekend at the Lifelock 400 where we watched our favorite driver, Jeff Green, take home a top-20 finish in the #66 Best Buy/ Garmin Chevrolet! Here's a handful of pictures for your enjoyment as I attempt to narrate our adventures. Once we arrived at the track, we had the opportunity to meet and greet Jeff himself. While entertaining the sponsors, he also stuck around for Q&A, autograph signing, and in true celebrity style, Jeff posed for dozens of pictures. After our meet and greet, we headed to the pits! After touring the Best Buy hauler, we were able to catch a front seat view of all the pre-race action from pit row.
Now, with a little more race knowledge under our belts, it was almost time for the race. Drivers were able to get 15 laps in before the rain started...and quickly stopped. After the track had time to dry, the drivers made it all the way to lap 210 before the race was shortened 57 laps due to weather and track lighting. After starting from the 37th position, Jeff and team were able to work their way on up to bring home a 20th-place finish. With this finish, Jeff holds the 28th spot in NEXTEL Cup drivers' point standings, as the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Chase continues with seven events left. Click here for more photos, and stay tuned to see how things will shape up for both Garmin sponsored drivers at Talladega this weekend.
Excitement continues to build for this weekend's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at the Kansas Speedway. It all started when NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver Jeff Green and his #66 Haas CNC Racing Chevrolet were here on Wednesday, and now we're counting down until Sunday's race. To help get you as psyched for the event as we are, Chet put together a short video recapping our NASCAR week. Hope you enjoy! We'll give you a full rundown of the race's results next week. Go Jeff Green!
Yep, it's a fact and we have video to prove it. The Goodyear Blimp uses guidance by Garmin. "The Spirit of Goodyear" Blimp is in KC this weekend for The NASCAR Yellow Transportation 300 and LifeLock 400 races at Kansas Speedway, and we were pleasantly surprised when we discovered a GPSMAP 496 on its panel. Guess that means NASCAR fans won't have to worry when a large ominous shadow passes over them on race day. The Blimp knows exactly where it's at and where it's going thanks to Garmin. Watch the video here.
Start your engines; it's time once again for your Friday NASCAR scoop! Although we've been talking quite a bit about the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event at the Kansas Speedway (a place near and dear to our hearts, and our office), this week, there's more NASCAR action to let you in on.
Before we jump ahead into what's happening this week, let me take a minute to spotlight a much-deserved top-ten finish from last week. That's right, Chad McCumbee and the #08 theGPSstore.com/Garmin team took home their first top-ten finish of the year at last weekend's NASCAR Craftsman truck series Vegas event. With the huge come back, Chad says he's excited about the rest of the year, and thinks he can have runs like his last one in the upcoming events! We congratulate Chad and team on their stellar performance and wish him best of luck when he hits the track again Oct. 6, at Talladega.
Now, if you're a Garmin Blog regular, you know that this weekend will top off NASCAR week here at Garmin. That's right, our very own sponsored driver, Jeff Green, has been gracing the Garmin campus and the surrounding cities with NASCAR events all week long. On Sunday, the Garmin crew (Chet and all) will be out at the Kansas Speedway to watch Jeff in action. Look for the #66 Best Buy/ Garmin car decked out in a Garmin blue paint design. If you're around, stop by and say hi. And stay tuned for our pictures from the pit, as we grab a front row seat in Kansas City. See you there, and good luck, Jeff!
Graced by perfect weather with "Garmin blue" skies, we can safely report to you that NASCAR Day at Garmin was everything we had hoped it'd be. Several hundred employees and curious onlookers converged on our parking lot to check out the #66 Best Buy/Garmin car, get an autograph from driver Jeff Green, and tour the cutting-edge electronics in the Best Buy Fun Zone. Even Garmin ambassador and all-around fun guy Chet got in on the act!
Garmin had a supply of over 700 die-cast cars that we offered to employees for 10 bucks a pop -- with all proceeds benefitting the United Way. We're proud to say they all sold out within just a couple of days, too.
Even if you weren't able to make the event today, you can see the #66 Garmin car charging hard for the checkered flag this Sunday afternoon at Kansas Speedway.
The Best Buy Fun Zone is in full swing at the Garmin campus. Jeff Green was here from 11:30 to 1:30 signing autographs and the rest of the event goes on until 3:00pm. The experience continues tomorrow at the Country Club Plaza. We'll have more details on that later. For now, here's some pics of the Fun Zone:
The Garmin campus in Olathe, Kansas plays host to NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver Jeff Green and his #66 Haas CNC Racing Chevrolet today. Best Buy is already in the parking lot, setting up their Fun Zone, a tricked-out semi trailer that shows the latest in cool technology... including, of course, Garmin.
Later this morning and into the afternoon, Jeff and the #66 car will be on hand, and Jeff says he's excited to sign autographs and extoll the virtues of Garmin. “You always want to be associated with brands you believe in, and I can honestly say I’m a big fan of Garmin,” notes Jeff, who uses our stuff while driving and also while hunting.
It's all in advance of this Sunday's LifeLock 400 race at Kansas Speedway -- so if you're in the neighborhood today, stop by and wish Jeff good luck... and be sure to catch the race this weekend!
Gear up your engines; NASCAR is headed to town! The Kansas Speedway will play host to this weekend's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event, and the excitement around the city is already brewing up. To help him find his way around the Speedway track, the #66 car will sport a special silver and blue Garmin paint design this season's debut in Kansas. In anticipation for the Cup's arrival, Garmin and Best Buy will participate in the 2007 KC Speedweek celebration, presented by Yellow Transportation, on the Plaza on Thursday, from 4-9 p.m., with special appearances by #66 Best Buy /Garmin driver Jeff Green and #70 Radioactive Energy Drink / Yellow driver Johnny Sauter.
Speaking of Jeff Green, he'll also be stopping by the Garmin campus this week, too. The #66 Garmin and the #66 Best Buy cars will both be on hand for photos, along with the Best Buy Fun Zone trailer featuring state-of-the-art electronics - including Garmin products!
To celebrate our sponsorship with the #66 car and the Best Buy Racing program, we here at Blog Central want to let you in on all the fun! So, in the spirit of Race Week at Garmin, we're giving away two Garmin die-cast race cars autographed by Jeff Green, to two lucky race fans this week. Just send us your name, address, and phone number to garminblogs@garmin.com, and we'll select the winners at the end of the week. Good luck and stay tuned for more NASCAR Week fun!
Vroom, vroom! Make sure you tune in this Saturday and Sunday to catch Garmin sponsored NASCAR drivers tear up the tracks from coast to coast. First up is Chad McCumbee and the #08 theGPSStore.com / Garmin in the Craftsman Truck Series at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Smith's Las Vegas 350. After a long day at Loudon, the team brought home a disappointing 26th-place finish last weekend, but are optimistic for Vegas. "It just takes some time to work out the bugs," Chad says. "We have had some really good tests, and Vegas is the kind of place where the team and I will excel." Here's hoping Chad and team turn their luck around in Vegas!
Then on Sunday, the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series heads to Delaware where drivers will take their second try at the Monster Mile of the Dover International Speedway. Driver Jeff Green and the #66 Comcast Haas CNC Racing team took home the 27th-place finish at last weekend's race, and Jeff says he's looking forward to this fun track. "I liked it better when they had asphalt down instead of concrete, but it's still a fun track," Jeff commented. With only nine more events to go, we wish Jeff and team the best of luck, too!
For the second time this season, the NASCAR NEXTEL Series heads to New Hampshire this weekend, and things are looking hopeful for Garmin sponsored #66 Best Buy Haas CNC Racing driver Jeff Green. Jeff's first time around the New Hampshire International "Magical Mile" track in early July marked his third sixth-place finish of the season. After last week's 33rd-place finish, Jeff and team are anxious to take home their fourth top-10 win. Jeff says the team is hoping to qualify better than they have in the past few COT races, and that the event should be a heck of a show! Tune in this Sunday for the SYLVANIA 300 to catch Jeff in action!
If Sunday isn't soon enough to feed your NASCAR hunger, tune in Saturday to see the #8 MRD theGPSstore.com/ Garmin driver Chad MuCumbee in the New Hampshire 200. Although Chad says this isn't his favorite track, he says he's optimistic about what this weekend will bring. "Hopefully we can have another solid weekend and get theGPSstore.com/Garmin Chevrolet up front this weekend." After last week's off week, the crew did several tests to get prepared for the upcoming stretch. "Everyone on the team is working really hard on getting these trucks to be top-five contenders," Chad says.
From everyone here at Team Garmin, we wish both NASCAR teams good luck at this weekend's events!
We'll start this week off with Chad McCumbee who had a solid top-15 finish at last week's Craftsman Truck Series event at the Gateway International Raceway. This win was Chad and the #8 MRD/ theGPSstore.com/ Garmin Chevy's 3rd top-15th victory of the season. And as Chad and team take this weekend off, they will gear up for the next Craftsman Truck event at the New Hampshire International Speedway.
Chad says, "the team has been working extremely hard in the shot and at the track, and after this weekend, this is just what everyone needed." Congrats, Chad, on a race well done! We look forward to seeing you back on the track soon.
Next up is NEXTEL Cup Series driver Jeff Green and the #66 Best Buy/ Haas/ CNC Racing team. On Sunday, Jeff will tear up the tracks of the Richmond International Raceway for the second time this year. When Jeff was last at Richmond, some mishaps dropped Jeff and team down to a 24th-place finish, after a strong run in the first 160 laps. This time around, Jeff says he thinks a top-five finish is not out of the question. "We've got three sixth-place fnished in COT races and in the ones where we haven't finished well, it seems like it's our own mental mistakes a lot of the time that take us out of the running." Tune in on Sunday to cheer Jeff on to another top-10 finish!
Listen up, sports fans! Although only one of the Garmin sponsored NASCAR drivers will hit the track this weekend, it's definitely a race you won't want to miss. NASCAR NEXTEL Series driver Jeff Green will take on the Bristol Motor Speedway in a new look this weekend. For the second time this season, Jeff and the No.66 Samsung Chevrolet Impala will sport a special paint design promoting Samsung HDTV's. And with the spotlight on this "Car of Tomorrow," one can help but notice the team's previous finishes in 'COT' races this season. The No.66 team has posted three top-10 finishes... all in a 'COT' race... and all resulting in a sixth-place finish. So after Jeff's 22nd-place finish at last weekend's event, the team has high (and perhaps superstitious) hopes for Bristol. Tune in Sunday to see Jeff and team take on the newly surfaced "World's Fastest Half Mile," live on ESPN. Good luck, Jeff! Bring home another one of those top-ten finishes!
And stay tuned to see what's in store for Craftsman Truck Series No. 08 theGPSStore.com / Garmin driver Chad McCumbee, after Chad and the rest of the Craftsman drivers take this weekend off. While filling in for Kyle Petty, Chad fell victim to circumstances beyond his control at last weekend's event, and we're looking forward to seeing Chad back on the track in a few weeks. Catch Chad back in action at the Gateway International Raceway, Sept. 1.
Last week's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events shaped up nicely for Garmin sponsored No. 66 Haas CNC Racing / Best Buy driver Jeff Green who finished in 19th place after a 32nd-place start at Pocono. "It was a pretty good day," Jeff said. "If you look at it based on how we've finished the past four or five weeks, it was a very good day." With this finish, Jeff moved up to the 29th position in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers points standings. This weekend, Jeff and team aim for another top-20 finish while they take on the 2.45-mile road course of Watkins Glen International. Jeff says that although a road course is a whole different animal than an oval, he enjoys the challenge. At Jeff's most recent run around the Watkins Glen road course last August, Jeff finished 15th-place. We wish Jeff and team the very best as they take on the 90-lap road course this Sunday!
In other NASCAR news, Craftsman Truck Series No. 08 theGPSstore.com / Garmin driver Chad McCumbee had last weekend to rest up. After Chad's last event at O'Reily Raceway Park just two weeks ago, his 34th-place finish wasn't what the team had hoped for. This weekend Chad and team head the Nashville Superspeedway for the Toyota 150 where Chad says they've had good runs in the past. "We can put this unfortunate luck behind us and focus on getting theGPSstore.com / Garmin truck in victory lane there." We wish all the luck for Chad and team tomorrow, too, and hope you'll join us in cheering both drivers on to victory!
It was an early ending to last week's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race in Indianapolis for No. 66 Best Buy / Haas CNC Racing driver Jeff Green. After the Garmin sponsored No. 66 car made contact with the outside retaining wall on lap 5, Jeff only made it a few more laps until the team determined the damage was too severe to repair on site. The team was only able to put in 13 laps into the 160-lap event. Jeff says however, that it will take more than this to dampen his spirits. "If you can't learn to shake it off when you have a bad day, you'll have ulcers the size of dinner plates." With this positive attitude, Jeff and team will take on the Pennsylvania 500 for this season's second event at the Pocono Raceway. After some electrical issues, Jeff took home a 32nd-place finish at the most recent (rain-shortened) Pocono event last month.
"The great thing about our sport is, every week is a fresh start and another chance to have a good run." The Pocono fun starts on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPN. We wish Jeff the best of luck!
And although No. 08 TheGPSStore.com / Garmin driver Chad McCumbee and team have this weekend off, we'll have the full NASCAR Craftsman truck series report next week when they're back in action next weekend at the Toyota Tundra 200.
It's that time of the week again, sports fans! And after both the NASCAR Craftsman truck series and NEXTEL Cup Series had last weekend off, this weekend's races are sure to be nothing short of exciting at Indianapolis. First up is the Craftsman Truck Series No. 08 TheGPSStore.com / Garmin driver Chad McCumbee at the O'Reilly Raceway. Chad's last race was at the Kentucky Speedway two weeks ago, where after a 10th-position start, Chad and team took home a top-20 finish. Chad will take on the .686-mile oval track in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at 7:30 tonight on the SPEED channel. Good luck, Chad!
While in town, stay tuned to see how No. 66 Best Buy / Haas CNC Racing driver Jeff Green does in the NEXTEL Cup Series event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the Brickyard 400. Since last weekend was an off week for the NEXTEL Cup, Jeff took a shot at another sport, and all for a good cause. The Green Foundation (of which Jeff is a co-founder) raised close to $60,000 through this year's golf tournament event. And that's exactly the kind of success Jeff is hoping for this weekend! With a 29th-place finish two weeks ago at the Chicagoland Speedway, Jeff has some room for improvement on this 2.5 mile track. "To be able to race at such a historic facility is amazing. Coming down the front stretch with the grandstands on either side of you is an incredible site for a race car driver." Tune in to cheer Jeff on at 1 p.m. this Sunday afternoon. We hope to see both drivers in victory lane this weekend; good luck!
Hey, sports fans, it's NASCAR time again! And although this weekend is a little more quiet than usual for one of the Garmin sponsored drivers, the fun doesn't stop! While the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series takes a breather this weekend, No. 08 TheGPSStore.com / Garmin Chevy driver Chad McCumbee, will gear up for the Built Ford Tough 225 at the Kentucky Speedway, Saturday, July 14. After a 25th-place start last week in Memphis, Chad and team took home a 26th-place after a flat tire late in the race. Chad says, "We will try and figure out the kinks that we have had going on the past few weeks during this week off," and noted that Kentucky will be a good place to rebound at.
Meanwhile, the NEXTEL Cup Series heads to Daytonal International Speedway for the Pepsi 400, where No. 66 Best Buy / Garmin driver Jeff Green hopes for another strong finish! Green and team were able to bring home a sixth-place finish last weekend after a 15th-place start-- quite the comeback from a 42nd-place finish the weekend before! This finish moved Jeff up four sports to 29th in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver's points standings, just 73 points out of the top-25 in the driver's points standings. Jeff says this weekend was just what the doctor ordered because, "even though the guys haven't let up in terms of how hard they're working, it's hard to not get a little down when you bust your tail but don't see results." Jeff and team will take on this 2.5-mile trioval super speedway under the lights, Saturday, July 7, starting at 6:30 p.m. Good luck, Jeff. Bring home another strong finish!
The summer events of NASCAR continue across the country this weekend. First in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, No. 08 TheGPSStore.com / Garmin Chevrolet driver Chad McCumbee will take on the track of the Memphis Motorsports Park at the O'Reilly 200. After a rough 31st-starting position at last weekend's race, Chad and team were able to gain enough momentum to make their way into the top 15. Once in the front stretch, another competitor made contact with the No. 08 car, taking Chad out of the race for the win. Despite the setback, the team ultimately brought home a 23rd-place finish and accredits the finish to "both pit strategy and sheer driving ability." Chad and team will test their luck on the shorter tracks of Memphis this Saturday, June 30 at 8:30 p.m, where Chad says the course fits him a little better than a lot of the short tracks. "It has wore out surface, similar to where I grew up racing. Anywhere that you get some tire wear and where the tires seem to fall off, I seem to really like racing there." Good luck, Chad, we hope to see you in victory lane!
Another driver hoping to bounce back this weekend is NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series No. 66 Best Buy / Garmin driver Jeff Green. After enduring some trouble last weekend at Infineon Raceway Jeff and team took a 42nd-position finish. The trouble started after Jeff's car came in contact with one of his teammates, the No. 70 Yellow Transportation car, causing damage to both machines. Due to miscommunication from the pit crew, Green continued on the track before repairs were made to the No.66 car. Shortly after, the car's fender continued to rub against the tire and caused Jeff's car to burst into flames. However, Jeff and team hope to turn things around this weekend at the New Hampshire International Speedway for the Lenox Industrial Tools 300, as this weekend's race marks Jeff's 250th NEXTEL Cup Series start. Jeff says he likes the shorter track of this 1.05 mile speedway, and says it's seems like when they go slower, they race harder. With 16 events down, we're cheering for Jeff to bring home his first top-5 finish this weekend! Catch Jeff in action, Sunday, July 1 on TNT.
