For those who don't already know, with the purchase of any Garmin Fitness device-- running, cycling, multi-sport, swimming-- you are given access to a free online log book, analysis tools, online detailed mapping, course and workout creators and billions of miles/kilometers of other users' activities to search, compare or use for your own training. Yes, billions! As a matter of fact, there have been so many calories burned that it is currently the equivalent of over 59 million pounds of candy burned. You'll even be able to set up your own social profile where you can allow other users from around the world to connect with you, view and "like" activities, leave comments and see your favorite workouts and personal records. It's as easy as searching for friend's names and asking permission to connect with them inside one of the largest social fitness communities in the World-- Garmin Connect.
If it's extra motivation you are looking for, you should follow some of Garmin's Pro Athletes and see what they've been up to. You can even leave comments on their workouts too! Here are a few accounts to check out: Triathlete Jenny Fletcher, Stand Up Paddler Jenny Kalmbach, Olympic Marathoner Desiree Davila, and Triathlete Lauren Goss to name just a few. For those of you who haven't yet set up your free profile, to allow you take advantage of all these great features and to get the most out of your Garmin-- what are you waiting for? If you don't have an account, click here to create one. If you do, follow the steps below.
- Sign in to Garmin Connect
- Go to upper right corner and click on your display name
- Select "profile" from the drop down menu
Within your profile, you'll be able to add a photo and other facts about yourself you might want others to know. Back up in that drop down menu, you'll also see a settings option. With this option, you'll be able to set your privacy settings-- something we made certain to give you complete control over.
So remember, the next time you are browsing the internet and wondering if it really matters what Jane or John Doe had for dinner and why they posted it, swing on over to Garmin Connect and give a shout out to someone's hard work. With the click of a button and a few comments you just might be helping someone get closer to their race goal, losing some extra pounds or simply staying healthy and active-- because that's what it's all about.
