One of the latest Garmin apps to hit the iTunes store is now available for all of our GDL 39 customers using an Apple iOS tablet or mobile device, free of charge!
The GDL 39 Utility app allows customers to update their GDL 39 software simply by launching the app on any iOS device and locating the GDL 39 via Bluetooth. This utility app enables customers to update the GDL 39 software without having to peform additional updates to a portable device.
To perform a software update using the GDL 39 Utility app, it's important that the GDL is connected to external power - the software update cannot be performed if it's only on battery power. If the GDL 39 is in need of a software update, download and launch the Utility app on your tablet or mobile device. Once the app is open, it will begin to search for the GDL 39, which should be connected to the tablet or phone via Bluetooth. When the Utility app has found the GDL 39, the app will display an ‘Update Firmware’ button in green. Selecting ‘Update Firmware’ will begin the GDL 39 software update via Bluetooth.
In addition to updating the operating software of the GDL 39, the Utility app also has some other useful features. It will display the signal quality and strength of the local ground station, the battery life of the GDL 39, and the Garmin patented navigation panel which will show heading, altitude and ground speed.
While the GDL 39 Utility app is not required to use or update the GDL 39 operating software, this simple app offers all GDL 39 owners with an iOS tablet or phone an easy alternative to getting important software updates. For GDL 39 owners using an Android tablet or mobile device, the Utility App for Android will be available soon in the Google Play store.
