Race day 008 Race day 003Garmin was recently honored with a visit from Girls on the Run founder Molly Barker. Molly was part of a panel of leaders who spoke to Garmin associates about investing their time in volunteer opportunities through organizations like Girls on the Run, Heart to Heart International and the YMCA. Nobody tells the story of how and why she started this empowering program for young girls quite like Molly. She had a rapt audience at Garmin that included volunteer coaches, parents of girls who’ve completed the program, engineers who’ve volunteered and helped coordinate Girls on the Run 5k races, and men and women who’ve been SoleMates fundraisers for Girls on the Run. Garmin is proud to be a sponsor of the SoleMates charity running program that benefits Girls on the Run.

Props-sm Molly in studio-smMolly’s a woman on the move who's used to juggling a busy travel and speaking schedule, so we knew we could pack in a few extra stops during her visit. A quick tour led to pics of Molly and Katy with some well-loved Garmin props — Mapasaurus and Yeti. Next, we rolled some video in our on-site studio, which we’ll share here on the Garmin blog soon.

Cafe Gratitude-sm Cafe-smOur final stop — dinner at Café Gratitude — allowed us to properly thank Molly with a fantastic meal of local, organic goodness.

Check out the latest way you can help support Girls on the Run and SoleMates while getting a payback for yourself. Our current Forerunner trade-in program ends August 31, so make plans to part with your old one and buy a new Forerunner for $50 back!
