Garmin volunteers put Cub Scouts on path toward Outdoor Activity Award

DSC00022DSC00004It’s no secret that Garmin employees are passionate about the products we create and the activities they’re used for. Walk through the halls on a Monday morning and you’ll hear about the weekend adventures our employees participated in – running a marathon, hitting the streets for a century ride, playing a round of golf, snagging the biggest fish anyone has seen (allegedly), or just taking a leisurely hike. Truth is, Garminites love being outdoors and we love sharing our passion with others.

Recently, our colleagues Aaron and Josh got the chance to share their passion of geocaching with a local Cub Scout pack. For a few hours on a Saturday morning, the boys and their parents got a hands-on experience with a variety of Garmin units while finding numerous caches and hiking the trails of a local park. After the boys experienced caching for themselves, the pack assembled and hid a cache of their own and published it on Opencaching.com. In doing this, they were able to mark off several requirements on their way to earning the Outdoor Activity Award.

Our favorite parts about geocaching are that anyone can do it and it’s fun for everyone – from first-time cachers to accomplished veterans; from small children who are excited about finding “treasure” to the avid outdoorsman who is excited about finding a new hiking trail. Whether you're training for a big backpacking trip or just looking for an excuse to go outside, geocaching is fun and open to all!
