It was an action packed weekend in Omaha, NE. at the Marriott U.S. Masters Swimming Summer Nationals and Garmin Swim was the talk of the pool! After testing out our newest training tool, both coaches and swimmers alike were amazed by the watches simplicity and abundance of useful data. Its ability to log swimmers' interval training as well as drills combined with stroke rate, distance and stroke type to name a few have made the Garmin Swim a must have for swimmers.
Former Gold medalist (2000, Sydney) Misty Hyman even gave the Garmin Swim a workout in the pool and called it an absolutely "awesome training tool, and a must have". Check out this video of Misty in the pool with the watch (segment begins at 3min 40secs). Hyman plans to incorporate the Garmin Swim into her swim training back in Arizona and into her coaching. She said there is a real benefit to swimmers and coaches to be able to review all the data from past swims in Garmin Connect (GC). Click here to see swim workout data in GC.
The stands of the CenturyLink Center were filled with cheering fans, friends, teammates and family. Many of them were using Garmin's cheering signs and Thunder Sticks to push the swimmers to new levels. Here is an example of one young fan's sign (left).
We were lucky enough to step away from our busy booth to cheer on Garmin employee Sara who had driven to Omaha to compete with her Missouri Valley Master Swimming club. Sara, who is a rockstar swimmer, has been testing the Garmin Swim for some time now and was thrilled to see the reaction of her fellow swimmers. "This watch really is amazing," she said. "Once swimmers realize how light weight and simple it is and all the data that can be collected from it, they'll never dive in without it".
As with other athletic events that we are involved with, it is not simply the results that we are in awe of. Even though there were several World Records set this past weekend, it is about the hours of dedication that goes into training and preparation. It is waking up before the sun to jump in the pool for a workout. It is never saying, "I can't". Yet always saying, "I will", that amazes us and makes us honored to be a part of so many athletes' lives.
Over the next couple months when you are watching elite athletes compete on the world's biggest stage remember that there are millions of amateur athletes who will never win gold, yet they will still be at the pool, track or gym until they physically can't. We salute athletes of all levels, those promoting healthy and active lifestyles and most importantly those who are simply willing to try. Now put on your goggles and go a few laps with Garmin Swim!
