Victor's Vectors: ADS-B expands to the Gulf

Gr-adsbWhat The Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, stated in a news conference on Monday that ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast) will be up and running in the Gulf of Mexico in December of this year.  This is a huge step in the right direction for the NextGen air transportation system which calls for a move from the now ground-based system to a satellite-based one.  The full US employment of ADS-B is currently scheduled to be in place by the end of 2013.  There is no need to wait till then because Garmin has you covered with the equipment to upgrade your aircraft now. Garmin will help you take advantage of this new technology with the GDL 90.  This remote unit is the first certified ADS-B datalink transceiver which offers more extensive and tactical surveillance data for traffic and the ability to receive continuous detailed weather information, as well as Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) data and TIS-B traffic / conflict information.  The stage is set for an air transportation system that provides safety improvements, fuel conservation, and delay reductions and Garmin is there in the front row.
