Roger's Runway: SVT Terrain

RogersrunwayRed_terrain Airport_screen Over the last three weeks I've talked about many of the features Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) brings to your G1000. Well, in this final installment I am going to talk about the biggest feature that SVT offers: 3D Terrain. The 3D terrain is kind of looking into the future of your flight path by showing you what lies ahead. If you have flown with any of our units that have terrain, then you will appreciate how the bird's-eye view gives you an understanding of the landscape around you - especially now that the bird's-eye view has changed to a forward-looking view, giving you even more understanding. Just like the bird's-eye view, the 3D Terrain offers color coded terrain warnings to let you know the terrain's proximity. That, along with the terrain warnings on the inset on the Primary Flight Display and the terrain information on the Multi-Function Display, ensure that you will not have a problem seeing where the terrain is at. Don't forget that if you have TAWS-B installed, you will also get voice prompts warning you about the terrain.

Comments:

It amazes me how far GPS devices have come. In terms of usage, I feel the latest advance has been better graphics and accurate elevation displays, most notibly seen in the beautiful and functional Colorado 400T, which has changed the way I hike and climb.
