Napoleon's lyrical guide

Touchdown_2Super Bowl XLII was the most-watched Super Bowl ever, and the ratings for those companies who had a spot during this advertising mecca are still coming in. That aside, many of you are still wondering what the French lyrics to Garmin's Napoleon commercial translate to. While there have been many guesses, one one has quite cracked the code. So before you go booking a flight to Paris to ask one of the locals, we'll let you in on the translation instead. Thanks to everyone who attempted to translate the lyrics, and for all the kind comments we've received since the spot!

"Under the sun, it's perfect, with my friends we drive, on the highway to paradise - alright - let's go in my car - the life before us is a beautiful sight, oh baby, here we go, let's go to paradise - alright - Garmin-Garmin-Garmin!"

Comments:

As a French teacher, I'm sure I'm not alone in being delighted at Garmin's contribution to the foreign language teaching cause!

Probably, like me, lots of teachers have been listening to the song, to try to write down the French words. So it would be great if Garmin would also post the definitive French version, so that we could share it with our students.

I read somewhere that the song was written for the commercial. Is that correct? And could you tell us who is singing, please?

Merci beaucoup!

Jennifer
PS These are the words I have, but I'd prefer to be sure of them before I give them to students.

Sous le soleil, c'est parfait
Avec mes amis on conduit
L'autoroute vers le paradis
All right.

La vie devant nous; belle est la vie (?)
Oh ma chérie,
C'est parti.
Allons-y
Au paradis
All right.

Feu vert; feu rouge;
Quoiqu'ils soient
Il faut qu'on bouge
De Paris jusqu'à Toulouse
On n'aura jamais les blues!

Une jolie fille, un jour, m'a dit
"Oh là là" et "Oui, oui, oui!"
Garmin nous mettait au Paradis
All right.
Garmin! Garmin! Garmin!

Hi Kurt,
Thanks for remembering! It's nice to have someone around here to keep us on our toes. Below are the lyrics for the 60 second spot. Enjoy!

"Under the sun, it's perfect
With my friends we drive
On the highway to paradise

The life before us is a beautiful sight

Oh baby, here we go
Let's go to paradise
Alright

Let's go in my car
Let's go in my car

Green light, red light
Whatever it is, we gotta move
From Paris to Toulouse
Wenever get the blues

A pretty girl said to me one day,
'oh la la,' and 'yes, yes, yes'
Garmin- Garmin- Garmin!"

Those are the lyrics for the 30 second spot. What are the lyrics for the 60 second spot? There are definitely more than that.
