Garmin eTrex Legend saved my life! One evening I decide to take a bike ride with my dad on a fairly native trail to us. Our curiosity got the best of us. This takes place in Point Washington State Forest, Seagrove, FL. We are near a lake and an alligator swamp home to many huge alligators (6-13 foot). We decide to take a trail away from where we are native to, just from our curiosity. I was well equipped for survival emergencies such as: Flashlights, Knife, Water, Matches, eTrex Legend, etc. We had come across several forks in the trail and had not taken notice which way we were heading. Next we lost track of time, so it turns out after 1 hour and 30 minutes on the trail we figure out we don't know where this is going to end. This is also partly because I noticed the trail was thickening and I was smelling swampy water also home to alligators. Luckily my eTrex Legend was tracking and by the time I looked at it the time was about 9:00 P.M. after starting at 6:00 P.M. For some reason after this I forgot about it.

I remembered seeing power lines so I followed those for about 1/2 a mile until we ran into an alligator infested overflowed swamp. We could see cars on an interstate along the power lines. I finally looked at my GPS and told it to reverse route. I only turned the GPS on after we passed an important fork in the trail. I am very thankful I did that because the native trail we knew was also home to Water Moccasins, HUGE Diamondbacks, and alligators. We might not have came back home if we took that trail in pitched black darkness. Then when we found the road we headed home. This was not the only time my eTrex saved my life! Thank you Garmin for having that great reverse route feature!
