We'll be Back at Macworld

Featurechetscorner_1_9Garmin will again be showing our wares at Macworld Expo, which runs January 8-12, 2007 in San Francisco.  On a related note, we've also been getting a number of questions from the Mac community asking for an update on our OS X compatibility timeline.  We're sticking by our revised timeline -- that is, we're aiming for Training Center compatibility by the end of 2006.  We'll also have an update on a timeline for completion of our other hardware and software applications.  Thanks to all the die-hard Mac fans for staying with us, and we think you'll agree that it was worth the wait!

Great News! We announced Training Center compatibility today.

... end of 2006?????, any word on if there will be any mac compatible software from Garmin for my Forerunner 305? I am quite anxious to be able to use the Training Center software. Please make it available soon. There are only 3 days left of this year ... and it was promised in the spring of 2006.

4 Days left in 2006. I guess this is what you would call "end of 2006", so where is the Training Center for Mac? I so need it! I don't want to infect my precious Mac with Windows but I do want to use all the functions of my new Forerunner.
How much longer will I have to wait?
Thanks from Germany! and Merry Christmas, of course :)

Glad to see you will be back at Mac World.

The end of the year is near. Any idea when we can expect to see the Training software come out. My Forerunner 305 is lonely with no computer to talk to.

Well here it is the end of the year and no Mac OS X software to be found. Should we expect something in the next 6 Days? Everywhere I have read by the end of the year so whats happening since it is apparent it won't be here.

Excellent news. You just won over another customer, and possibly two more that I ride with.

I have to agree with Robbie Walker. Provide some sort of API to the public, and the open source community will reward you with amazing work.

Great news for Europe too (I hope!!)! The only GPS hardware provider of note here that provides Mac support is TomTom and they really do need some competition at the moment. Navman and the rest have no intention of offering any other software apart from Windows, which is OK but I happen to be a "switcher" and would like to use my Parallels window as little as possible. You can't quite get the same smooth integration as you can with native OSX programs! So don't forget us this side of the pond as I am sure you are aware that there are lots of Mac users here who are waiting with baited breath!

Smart move on supporting the Mac OS X! I love my Garmin StreetPilot 2610 that I’ve had for over 2 years. I also love my Mac computers and it’s been frustrating updating the mapping software because I’ve got to search around for a friend with a PC in order to accomplish the task. Garmin and Apple are a natural pairing, they even have stores now on the same street and on the same side of the street at either end of the block.

Thank you for the update! I just put my 550 on order. :)

I will be switching over to a Mac laptop during this winter. As a long time Garmin customer for navigation aboard our Tashiba 40 I'm happy to see there is support for the Mac OS. Many of my fellow sailing friends are refusing to follow Microsoft down the road with Vista and they too are looking toward Mac as their next onboard laptop. I believe Garmin is on the right path by supporting the Mac for updating software in Garmin GPS products.

I am thinking of updating my street pilot 3 to the new Zumo however I want the software to work on my iMac G5 can you please give me a date when this will be available as I will not be making the purchase till it is as my PC is going in the bin!

Norman

Thanks for keeping the community informed!

I'm looking forward to the release.

Good to hear that OS X will be supported in near future!

I'm waiting for that and will then buy a Garmin for cycling.

I hate to have a Windows machine extra for Garmin, and ... I love a Mac and I'm shure to love a Garmin too :-)

Please hurry. The ONLY reason I still have a windows machine lying around the house is to update the database on my 196.

I think I'll celebrate full Mac OS X compatibility by upgrading to a 496... or 896... whatever's available then.

In fact, I'm pretty positive I'm NOT going to upgrade until then.

Personally, I'd recommend doing everything low-level Unix so you can support Linux too... building an interface to update the databases shouldn't be that hard.

An even better idea: open the specs so we can write our own updaters... you guys make money selling hardware and databases... you're the market leaders... don't make the mistake Nikon made!
