Chet's Corner - Pedal Power

Some of you asked if Chet had any non-nüvi tips up his sleeve, and today he delivers an important tip for all of you Edge owners:

Chet_3 Are you having trouble with your Forerunner or Edge (205 or 305 models) locking up after charging it?  To power the unit back on, press the "Mode" and "Reset" buttons at the same time.  Let go of those two buttons, press the power button, and the unit will turn back on.

Have any tips and tricks that you have found using your Garmin unit that you think would be helpful to other users? Send us an email at garminblogs@garmin.com with your suggestion.

OMG this actually worked! I had owned a 205 model for a year (heavy use) and it wouldn't turn on after charging right before a big race. I read this article, tred it, and it worked! Amen!

Hi,

I have a Foreunner 305 that is a part of my life :-)
Today before my run, I was going to upload my latest run, but the unit was dead.
I could not switch it on, and I panicked. How should I be able to go for a run without my 305?
I tried all different buttons (I thought), but could not switch it on. I searched the web for died Forerunner, and it took me some minutes, before I found this link.
It tried Reset and Mode and then the unit said “Battery Charging in Progress”, it was some sweet words.

I had not charged my unit for some days, so the reason for why it looked up, might be different from what you describe here, but the solution did the trick!

Thanks for tip

Thanks! My Forerunner 205 was just showing, Battery Charing Complete, and would not power on. I didn't see this tip when searching the Garmin FAQs under the 205 product. You might post it there to help the next frustrated owner.

Yes, you absolutely can use your Edge in the rain. Virtually all of our outdoor/rec units are rated waterproof for 30 minutes in one meter of water. If your Edge is underwater that long, you've got bigger problems to worry about than soggy electronics!

Can I use my Garmin 205 when it is raining out? Can the unit get wet?
