Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the launch of the Rino 650 handheld two-way radio integrated with GPS. The Rino 650 is the ultimate companion for adventures in the great outdoors. Boasting a communication range of up to 32-kilometres, the Rino 650 UHF radio is packed full of powerful features including a barometric altimeter and 3-axis tilt compensated compass.
“Whether you’re heading out on a camping trip, a hike or taking to the bush for a weekend trek, the new Rino helps you make the most of your time in the outdoors” said Ian Edwards, National Sales Manager, Garmin Australasia. “The ability to know where your fellow outdoor adventurers are at all times and being able to communicate freely with them provides a new level of safety and fun only found with Rino.”
Garmin’s Rino 650 allows users to keep in contact with hiking partners, camping groups, family and friends with its unique position reporting capability, which allows you to send your exact location to other Rino users to appear on their map pages. Your Rino 650 will even send its location to previously paired devices automatically for those moments when you don’t have a spare hand. Compatible with all other conventional UHF radios, the Rino 650 even allows users to send unit-to-unit text messages to other compatible devices in the area, so you can be in touch no matter what the conditions.
Rino 650’s built in high-sensitivity GPS receiver with HotFix® automatically calculates and stores critical satellite information, so you can simply turn the unit on and get moving within moments. Multiple profiles on the Rino, including Marine, Recreational and Automotive, mean that the unit can be customised to match your preferred adventure activities. Rino 650 also supports optional mapping products, such as as BirdsEye™ Satellite Imagery, TOPO Australia and New Zealand and specialist maps. Additionally, Garmin Custom Maps now allows you to transform paper and electronic maps into free downloadable maps for your Garmin GPS, so there’ll never be an outdoor adventure your Rino 650 can’t keep up with.
Rino 650 also keeps you in touch with your other outdoors companions. The Rino 650 is ANT+ compatible, allowing you to share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches wirelessly with other compatible Garmin GPS devices. Additionally the Rino 650 can support a heart rate monitor or cadence sensor for those wanting to measure the results of their outdoor exercise. You can also store and share your photos when you connect your Rino 650 via USB and download Garmin’s BaseCamp™ (www.garmin.com/basecamp). Garmin’s BaseCamp allows users to view, plan and organise maps (in 2D or 3D), waypoints, routes and tracks – including elevation profiles – and send them to a Garmin handheld device, so you can plan your adventures ahead of time.
Garmin’s optional external power pack means you can enjoy the great outdoors for even longer. Specifically designed for Garmin’s outdoor and fitness products, this water-resistant power pack houses a 2200mAh lithium-Ion battery capable of recharging 5V devices, while remaining robust, compact and lightweight enough for space and weight-conscious outdoor enthusiasts. The external power pack can be recharged in three ways, via the included folding solar panel, the universal mains charger and USB.
